Kings Place, 2005-8, by the
architectural practice Dixon Jones. In York Way near King's Cross
station. A mixed-use building with public concert hall, arts
venue, conferences, bars and restaurant and commercial office space. The
Guardian newspaper is moving here in 2008.
The front is west-facing and has
an undulating glass facade. This is a free-standing transparent surface
made up of hundreds of very slightly curved sheets of glass, produced in
Italy near Venice. As can be seen in these pictures, it gives a
hall-of-mirrors effect to the cloudscape. |
